THE NATURAL STATE

Making these pictures was some of the most fun I’ve had taking photographs. Captured over the course of ten days in Arkansas, they offer a glimpse into the American South. It’s the largest portfolio on this website and is composed of three collections: ‘Out West’, ‘Petit Jean’, and ‘Downtown’.

‘Out West’ portrays the beauty of the country west of Little Rock and the distinctly Southern scenery that makes Arkansas the Natural State. ‘Petit Jean’ focuses on Petit Jean State Park, in the Arkansas River Valley south of the Ozarks; to me, these photographs couldn’t be anywhere but America. Finally, ‘Downtown’ portrays the urban, composed of images of Little Rock and Conway.

Pulling over on the side of small country roads, experiencing firsthand the unique feeling of the Southern United States; I felt closer than ever before to photographers such as William Eggleston and Joel Meyerowitz who I idolise.
